XMas DIY

It's the season to be jolly lalalalalala! It has been quiet on Suusig blog the last couple of months, but today I was in the mood for a XMas DIY and why not post it? ;-)

Materials
- Canvas 60 x 80 cm
- Wallpaint
- Silver paint
- Wooden stars

Now I used wallpaint of Le Noir Blanc, Newport Green. They have little tester tins, in different colors and I like the 'chalk' texture of it. But you can also use regular acrylic paint and use the color you like.

  1. You paint the canvas and let it dry
  2. Make dots with the silver paint with two different size brushes
  3. Drop the wooden stars on the wet paint and they will stick
That's it!

Merry Christmas!

Knits

Triangle Scarf
Finally I did it, I finished a triangle scarf! It has been on my wishlist for a long time and I started with one, but didn't finish it... So this time I decided to start and no stopping until it's finished ;-)) This one is for my mother.

Blanket or scarf?
This green blanket was a birthday gift for my dear friend Miss R! The next day she told me her colleagues complimented her on her scarf! What scarf I asked, and she sent me a picture of her wearing a green scarf!

Looking good Miss R!

DIY nr. 7 - Jeans Pillow

A little inspiration coming your way ;-)

This jeans pillow is an easy DIY! I had a pile of old jeans left after cleaning up closets and being Suusig, I always think if there's something I can do with it! So here's a quick DIY without an actual pattern:

  • Pillow (I used a headpillow 60 c 70 cm)
  • Cut of the legs of the pants
  • Cut the legs open at the inner side of the leg
  • Leave an edge of 2 cm around the pillow
  • Sew 3 sides of the fabric together
  • Sew the 4th side halfway
  • Iron the pillow and the seams, than turn it right side out
  • Put the pillow inside the cover
  • Glue the last part together with textile glue (a better way is handstiching it together, but as I am still learning...)
Have fun!

It has been a while...

...since I blogged! Busy with everything and nothing and a little lack of inspiration. Hoping that it will return and in between enjoying the summer so far! The boys started their summer with a sailing week and flying together to France. They had a blast, and so did we ;-) the weather was perfect!
And to think that today is our first day of summer vacation! Feels like an extra long summer...

DIY nr 6 - Do more...

I wanted to try and work with wood instead of canvas this time. So I painted a piece of triplex with wallpaint for a beautiful matt base. Then I wrote the quote with pencil and used silver paint for the base of the letters. After that writing again but with a with a black marker. The silver has a great effect when looking at it from different angles!!

Final painting project

We had our last paintingclass last Wednesday and I could finally finish my last project. This one was pretty difficult... but I do like the result! So for now we are done, but we decided to join the next course after the summer.

Pink smoothie

Instead of a green smoothie, a pink smoothie this morning!

Thinking there were plenty of bananas & greens I came downstairs. Plenty of greens, but the kind that blend perfectly with banana, or mango for that matter. But NO bananas (or mango...)!
On Thursday there were at least 10 of them... And come to think of it we're running out of apples as well! The boys are looking at me with a face that says hey we're eating fruit!!!

So true my lovely, health conscious buddies...I'll find something else to blend!

For this smoothie I used:
  • 2 scoops of raspberries & blueberries
  • Added a cup of nut milk
  • A scoop of oatmeal
  • Little bit of honey
  • Blend it all together
  • A scoop of Greek yoghurt on top

Delicious!

Pastry Project

The assignment in last night's painting class was painting pastry! And you have to finish it during this class as well!

Now does pastry look quite easy, but is isn't when you have a good look at it. The shape, the fluffiness of the cream, the light that reflects on it. And what a about looking at delicious pastry all night that smells declicious! But we stood strong and even though we could eat it by the time we were finishing up, we said no thank you...!

Nice to eat - Power breakfast Coconut-Basil smoothie from Delicious

We have a green smoothie almost every morning and every now and then there's a lack of inspiration and we tend to choose the easy combination of spinach, banana, and another fruit. Even though we have lots of greens in the fridge and I know, there are tons of recipes to find online, we even have a recipe book for shakes & smoothies....!

Since variety is key ;-) we have great alternatives - an oatmeal or yoghurt breakfast, or an egg/avocado breakfast. Yum!

I found this green smoothie in Delicious, the Powerfood edition. The combination of coconut milk and basil is really nice, we both liked it a lot. And even better it is so easy to make:

Coconut-Basil smoothie (4 serves):
1 (fairtrade) banana
1 (fairtrade) mango
200 ml fresh orange juice
1 can of coconut milk
handful of basil leaves

You can freeze the banana and mango for an hour in advance, it says in the recipe. We didn't do that, but the frozen fruit must give an extra nice kick to it!

Enjoy!

Decorative Wooden Chain - DIY no. 5

Wooden beads are a trend in interiors e.g. the wardrobe snake and I really like the look of wooden elements in the house!

This DIY is done in an instant and I don't think a turorial is necessary....and on a rainy day like today, a Sunny thing-to-do!

Sharing good vibes

It's time for sharing some good vibes!

We had a wonderful week in Portugal.... The weather was warm and sunny. Not a cloud in the sky! On top of that we stayed at Pinheiros da Balaia Villas!

Looking outside now I wish we could go back....

Knitting XXL

Okay, I made the decision I will continue knitting through the season! Probably not as much as during winter, but I'm thinking of trying new things. What I really like to do is working with XXL needles and wool. I love chunky knits! Working with the wool I used before for the pouf is nice but it is not as firm as I would like it to be. So first I'm looking for different wool and bigger needles and then a new project....to be continued!

Easter Brunch

Getting ready for Easter brunch with my parents-in-law this morning! On the menu we have eggs (off course), all kinds of breads, jellies, chees and wonderful prosciutto! Bubbles, coffee & fresh orange juice. And even though they're 12 and 10, the old chocolate easter bunny still works ;-)

And tomorrow we're having brunch with friends. We all bring food so today we'll start preparing the lobster thermidor, delicious!! Green asparagus yummy....! And they are preparing great food as well.

So it's all about brunches this Easter, I love it. If we are able to do anything after brunch? We have plans to finish a bathroom and do some work in the garden....but those plans might be a little ambitious...!

Enjoy your breakfast, brunch or dinner and be lazy this Easter!

Summer knits

This knitted pouf was a gift for a Birthday Girlfriend! Finished it just in time before the lovely party we had last night! As said before knitting season was over....but I saw the wool and I just loved the summer color of it. On top of that I ran into a plaid that matched perfectly with the pouf. With the small leather labels it turned out into a great combination!

So if this summer knitting will continue? I'm thinking of a large pouf for lounging outside....

Fabulous Miss R.

So much fun with my friend Rotem yesterday. I asked to her if she would like to strike a pose with my knitted clutches! She is the perfect model, she definitely knows how to pose, and takes it very seriously, it was hilarious we couldn'st stop laughing!! The pictures are so great!

Thank you Fabulous Miss R. you are the BEST!

End of Season - Knitting

This beautiful blanket was supposed to be my final knitting project this season. It turned out great! It is incredibly soft and the color is perfect. My guess is that it will be used frequently. And I'll bet outside on summer evenings while the temperature is dropping!

But.....who knew that knitting is healthy for your brain? I find it very relaxing, but guess what? It's been said to have the effects as meditation, according to this article! So for now I am done and my bet is new inspiration will follow shortly and I will be knitting through the summer as well...!

Happy Friday!

Red Denim Clutch

I finished this red denim clutch recently. First project on my new sewing machine! I told you that I like to work with used fabrics and I experiment with it to see how it works out.

The base for this clutch is a worn out red demin jeans from America Today... It's not bright red, it has some pink in it as well. The studs are sewed on bead caps. The lining on the inside is a bright colored scarf. I like the combination of the baby blue with the red denim...

#Knittedclutch

This knitted clutch is a gift for my sister in law. The jersey yarn is cream white and has light colored lining on the inside. I used no 12 needles which is perfect for this type of yarn!

Happy Birthday Sis-in-Law!

Left over yarn....perhaps it's enough for a pouch to match the clutch?!

Sewing

De basisstof is voornamelijk hergebruikt materiaal, very eco-conscious...

New plans become more specific, and knitting is slowly making room for spring. Some final work on two knitting projects, which are lightly colored already ;-) That's how it works when spring is announcing itself!

In 2012 I made a few sketches of clutches, and made one as well. The base fabric is mainly re-used material, very eco-conscious... But after that my sewing machine crashed and I just didn't get to it. But last week my mother called and off we went to Amersfoort with a goal, getting a new sewing machine, hurray! So it's time to bring those sketches to live I say!

Making plans for new creations...

Once upon a time there were 3 Pillows

Knitting is so much fun and hip! I have tried different types of wool and knitted enough to make pillows. Not one, not two, but three..! You would think I have plenty of time, but I don't, I often hear myself saying I dón't have enough time?! To be honest some of the knitwork was half finished and put aside and been waiting ever since. And knitting with multiple threads and thick needles works really fast and you can see the result in Knitting Stuff!

One half finished project had been laying around since last winter and I picked it up again. But thick beautiful wool from the Hema got my attention....and I started a new project! Or what about my shawl in Wallet or Clutch, it is half finished but I got tired of it so I put it away...I will probably will pick up that half finished project next year and blog about it?!

Knitting Stuff!

I'm very happy with this Suusig project that turned out great! I wanted to knit with thick needles and wool for a while now. I found needles no. 20 and, and since this was my first tryout, I bought wool at Zeeman's for 0,99 ct. So with the stiches on the needle and seven balls of wool on the floor, I was ready to start.
It went wrong almost right after that...all seven threads got into a big knot. So I had to pull it out (a real testcase...) and made one big ball of wool out the seven, as if you are knitting with one thread! I used a big pillow to fill it up and I just love it..., if I say so myself!

Candlelight Makeover - DIY no.4
